Anju Modi

Anju Modi has established herself as the altruistic designer. Her designs have made head turns, but those designs have concealed beautiful tales. These have been the tales of dedication, passion and her endless endeavor of perpetuating cultural heritage of Indian villages.

Her designs are woven around the crafts and arts of the Indian villages. She believes in going back in cultural hindsight for drawing inspiration. Anju strongly believes that fashion is about simplicity, evolution and re-cycling.

Her designs reflect her strongly held believes. Many of her collections have been the fusion of simplicity and crafts. How else would you explain an entire range of white in khadi?

Most of her designs use eco-friendly vegetable dyes and pure fibers and have colors like aqua greens, peacock blues, deeper pastels and white; that are affable and light on the eye.

The designs also are aggrandized with embroideries. She has helped revive old traditional crafts from all over India, by using them in her designs or modernizing.

After passing through a journey of phenomenal growth in the last 20 years along with her team, for Anju Modi, designing clothes is a way of life rather than an end in itself.

She has passed on the message of love, goodwill and a need to contribute to society through her past work in remote villages of India to her future project of opening an R&D centre.

Anju Modi, perfectionist and a visionary by nature has created a style for the woman of today and subtle designs that connect with the traditional Indian handicrafts of yesteryears.

Her contribution to Indian textile and handiwork is immense. From the revival of weaves in her ensemble to the reinterpretation of Bagru and Sanga-neri prints in her fusion range, her work has shaped the modern days woman’s wardrobe.

During 2000-2001, she adopted modernisation and improvement of chanderi weaving and patterns and further developed the Lurex yarn weaving in silk chanderi fabric.

In 2001-2002, she developed yarn with slubs and fine rich fabric then styled into casual comfortable yet trendy silhouettes.

Recently, in the year 2005, she has revived silver and gold foil print technique from 12th century in Rajasthan villages in a contemporary way.

Anju’s sensibility of creating a modern look from the old and traditional style forms is the essence of what her label Anju Modi stands for today.
This Delhi based designer has modernized and improved upon the traditional techniques like Zari and Chanderi weaving. To her credit, she has the development of different yarns that are based on the traditional ones like khadi and chanderi silk fabric. Her R&D feats are enough to earn her the title of “Fashion Inventor”.
