Aparna & Norden Wangdi

The Delhi-based products of prestigious National institute of fashion technology, Aparna and Norden Wangdi has established Freefalling design studio in the year 1999 with amalgamated skills.

Norden, after completing his graduation from St Stephens college (Delhi University) has also completed a post graduate degree in Garment Manufacturing Technology from NIFT (New Delhi). He worked as a manager of production in an export house for three years in India and further went to work in New York (USA) the hub of the global fashion Industry with a prominent buying house.

On the other hand, Aparna is the creative force behind the business charting out the course in the realm of design. The graduation collection was picked as one of the six to be showcased from India for the Indo British partnership and was also one of the six designers chosen for the "Most promising new designers" in the NASSCOM show.

Norden and Aparna mostly work on silk and cotton, but said their works are a juxtaposition of different fabrics, colours and surface ornamentation techniques in a single garment.

The studio emphasise on the cut of the garment being essentially a western wear design label as the fits, finishes and quality were given importance. The detailing is in the contrast thread work, accentuated seam lines and textural embellishments like rouching, printing, dyeing, painting and layering.

Freefalling sells their designs through stores in USA, Singapore, Italy, Saudi Arabia and UAE; whereas in local markets it retails at Kimaya, Mumbai & Dubai; Ensemble, Mumbai & Delhi; Ishna,Mumbai; Purple Porcupine, Mumbai; Manan, New Delhi; Marichika, Hyderabad; Cinnamon, Bangalore & Cochin; Grasshopper, Bangalore; Ffolio, Bangalore; Sosas, Goa; Prana, Calcutta and Aura, Nagpur.
