Deepika Govind

Deepika Govind after deciding to take design as a profession, has attended several skill developing programme at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) while on the field experience has worked with kalamkari and kasuti artists (traditional crafts).

The structure and design of her designs is artfully cut on clean lines, whereas the accent falls on cool elegance and perfect tailoring. The handcrafted ensembles testify quest for precision and an eye for detail and nothing is left to chance from the selection of silk linings to the manner in which a buttonhole is hand-bound.

As a serious designer, the collection of Deepika Govind would stand out for its restrained maturity, with judiciously-placed blasts of colour being designed for the season full of giddy, colour-saturated fashion.

The collections find a comfortable balance of eastern crafting and western construction and with deep motivation, she creates distinctive exclusive fabrics of high quality with the use of natural fibers such as linen, silk and cotton.

Deepika Govind launched her label in 1995 and also setup studio and workshop in March 2002. The first solo showing in 1995, followed by one in December 1996 and a weekend of fashion at the Oberoi, May 1999.

She has also been nominated for the MTV-Lycra Style Awards as Break through Designer of the year” (Oct-2003)and has showcased lounge-wear at a show at ABN Amro, Bangalore in November 2003.

The international showing includes Hong Kong Fashion Week in January 2001, under the 'Asia Pacific Designers' Showcase' and again, in January 2002; participated in the 'Incredible India' trade exposition at Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), in November 2003 and also took part in a trade fair in Dubai in April 2004.
