The Bengali designer now based in India, Navonil and his fashion partner Dev (Debarghya Bairagi) have aptly elevated fashion designing to an art form where art is not only for art's sake but it has been made into a viable business venture.
The duo showed successfully at the Lakme Fashion Week both in 2007 and 2006, and they won the Elle Magazine 'Style Awards 2006' for their first collection.
Debarghya Bairagi 'the dreamer' of the two is a Commerce graduate from St Xavier's (Kolkata) and has studied fashion at National Institute of Fashion Design, Kolkata. He was the 'Style File Young Masters' finalist in 2004.
Navonil 'the entrepreneur' is better known in the fashion world as part of the duo Dev R Nil
(Dev and Nil). He studied fashion from Canberra Institute of Technology (Australia), interned under Akira Isogawa, which helped him understand the importance of Art in Fashion. He has interned under Akira Isogawa and attributes this to helping him understanding the importance of art in fashion.
In May 2007, Navonil returned to Australia for the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, where his fashion label exhibited for the first time. At the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week they launched their ‘Resort 2007/08' collection, which ‘focused on the relaxed form of fashion with a controlled bright colour palette and a breathtaking array of surface texturing.
