Gitanjali Kashyap

Gitanjali Kashyap, a craft-oriented designer of women's wear has done a short course at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and honed her skill mainly through experimentation.

The designer known for using traditional textiles with new motifs and fabrics to brilliant effect is credited with starting hand-brushed painting on cloth, a technique she developed in Varanasi and then later shifted to Delhi.

She has used Bandhini, to great effect by imparting it a very contemporary look on fabrics like Indian silk satin and Chamois satin. The clothes have found acceptance in the European market through de Bijenkort, a chain of Dutch department stores and Galleries Lafayette, the French mega department store.

Gitanjali loves getting exclusive fabrics woven for all her collections and spends months in Benaras where weavers dream up special fabrics for her. She has a good buyer in Gallerie Lafayette in Paris.
