Born on February 23, 1974, Pria Kataria Puri
is a dynamic award-winning female fashion designer known for her support of the Indian “Nouvelle Couture.” Awards she has won include the Bharat Yuva Ratna Award and the Bharat Vikas Award.
Puri received formal fashion design training from Polytechnic in New Delhi. She also had training at FIDM San Francisco, USA. It was in San Francisco that she showcased the first collection she designed, an evening line she called Occidental Evening Wear.
The designer’s style is a combination of Oriental and Western ideas and is inspired by gypsies and Egyptian lavishness. Embroidery is her signature style and plays a significant role in her designs. She is also fond of using mirror work, shells and beading and other hand embellishments.
Puri calls her work “sensuous with elegant silhouettes” made out of “luxurious feminine fabrics.” She is a member of the Fashion Design Council of India and has two homes: one in Delhi and one in Bombay.
