Samant Chauhan

A post-graduate diploma holder from NIFT (New Delhi), Samant Chauhan enjoys working on natural fibers.

The designer, in his graduating fashion show, got the award for the most innovative fabric development, which was also the best design collection and got the best design collection award for the year 2004 in the NIFT Confluence conducted in Calcutta.

In 2005 he was the only fashion designer from India, selected among 9 designers to showcase his collection in Singapore Fashion Week '05 and was awarded the 1st runner up award for his men's wear collection at the Asian Young Designer Contest SFW'05.

He was also one of the finalists from India for the WOW'06 show, New Zealand organized by the Fashion Design Council of India in association with the New Zealand tourism board.

The designer used lots of texturing, interlacing and knits to create a layered look along with digital print, the colour palette incorporated mostly pastel, while creating western street wear with Bhagalpuri raw silk.

Samant describes the lines are clean and contemporary; the garments are made to animate - not freeze - the wearer as the material drives his designs, maximising the use of each fabric by taking into consideration weight, texture, color, finishing and mix matching of the knit and woven fabric.

He has explored and almost exhausted in terms of possible applications and has challenged it with natural and in its raw form, distressed it and applied an assortment of techniques of it.
