Shyamal & BhumikaThe label 'SHYAMAL & BHUMIKA' launched by the designer duo in 2003 is all about understated elegance. The flirty details like ruffles used with handwoven silks take a fresh and feminine take on vintage as one can see a blend of modern silhouettes and Indian craftsmanship in the collections. Shyamal is from the Central St Martin's School of Art and Design, while Bhumika Shodhan studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology. The designers paired to make style statement has teamed a textured silk dress with short churidar pants and a rust dress with gold khadi print with the tiniest of honey gold shrug. The combination of these two creative minds was their eclectic Spring/Summer 2007 collection called Colours of a Shadow that revolved around muted shades of tobacco, khadi browns, amber, green, olive, white, beige, gold, salmon pink and banana for natural fabrics like linen, raw silk and hand-woven brocades. The duo's collection had a distinct identity which was inspired by the romantic season of spring in Paris when love is in the air as playing with a predominantly western silhouette, but with Indian fabrics and craft; the embellishments moved from appliqués, quilting, texturing and patch work to gold khadi print, pleating, layering, hand stitch detailing. The Autumn/Winter 2007-08 collection titled Geometry was a fine, controlled collection with just the right touches of styling and drama.
