MUMBAI: Fashion designer Khushali Kumar's Reve label started in 2005 has dressed several Bollywood beauties. For Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012 Khushali's fairy tale collection tilted "Angel's and a Princess…" was an ethereal offering to the global buyer.
Presenting the collection in a unique manner Khushali gave dual options – each entry had dresses in two versions – short and long - the former sexy and modern while the latter was elegant and sophisticated.
Working around New Age silhouettes with 3D accents and embellishing with feathers, birds and wings to create an utterly romantic look, Khushali added crystal tiaras to complete the theme of the collection.
The colour options were chrome, silver, gun metal, bronze, gold, sand, skin and off white; proving that Khushali remained true to a uniform story. Fabrics were rich appliquéd tulles, special metal chipped surfaces, feathered and metallic nets as well as sheer chiffon.
Khushali opened the show with her trade mark duo of dresses - one was with intricately embroidered chrome all metal and cut glass short dress. The second was a mirror version of the embellished dress with angle like bird wing placement depicting the free spirit of the collection.
It was pure cocktail and Red Carpet glamour as shimmering corsets, minis with intricate swirls of crystal, sequins and beads embroidery, and strappy body hugging dresses made a stunning impact on the ramp. The multi petal appliqué technique was used cleverly for micro minis on the skirts or in strategic places. Rows of glittering beads were draped over the bodice of the many regal diaphanous tulle gowns.
Ending the show was the glamorous Bollywood star Dia Mirza in a gun metal side rouched gown with silver beaded bodice. For the woman who dreams of dressing up like the princess of a bygone era, then Khushali Kumar's scintillating collection will make it a reality.
