INDIA:  Nitin Bal Chauhan Reverberates the Dismal Side of Domestic Life.

Added: Feb 25, 2009
Showcasing his Spring/Summer‘09 Collection, Nitin Bal Chauhan reverberates the dismal side of domestic life through his eloquent fashions. “Conditions Apply: Part I”, The Domestic Collection probes into the dim realities of mundane metropolitan lives. Having showcased at the Tokyo Fashion Week ’09, this collection once again articulates Nitin’s innate design sensibility in style and fit creating ensembles that aptly translate his versatility and aptitude of au courant trends. He will also be showcasing his latest Autumn/ Winter ’09 Collection at the upcoming Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week ’09 in March 2009. About the Collection: As one of the world’s fastest growing third world countries, millions perish and succumb to external and internal conflicts. Never before exposed to such standards, a generation is caught in a perpetual fight for survival. Today, the young and old of the many metropolises wake up each day to follow an order and contribute to the journey of a nation, culture and civilization. Probing into the shadows, Nitin exposes the somber shades of domestic life. He assimilates textures and expression by means of intricately meticulous techniques like batik, shibori, tie & dye, screen printing and digital printing. The nine narratives depicted in this collection are Senior citizens, Divorce, Vanity, Deliverance, Sealing, Accidents, Mediocrity, Suicides and Urbanization. Immaculately employing colors, textures, weaving, symbolism and metaphors, this collection uses nylons, satins, chiffons and 100% organic cottons. Articulating the fashion quintessence of modern day mayhem, this domestic collection comprises of fitted and gathered dresses, bow tops and halter necks mixed and matched with an array of accessories. The leather bags come as hand bags, clutches, lap- top bags and travel bags while the shoe styles oscillate from high boots to gladiators with a smidgen of batik to add to thier unique flair. About Nitin Bal Chauhan: Being born in a family with a legacy of bureaucracy, he was provided with a contrasting opportunity to see and feel the plight of the underprivileged and also the charm of elitism. Thus very creatively, he talks of them through his collection. The motivation began with awards and recognition such as FEMINA FDCI and British Design Council Award 2004, a scholarship from Domus Academy, Italy etc. It was while documenting 12 tribal crafts as Chief Co-coordinator of SEWA HIMALAYAS with his SLR that he discovered his desire to express through motion pictures which resulted in a 13 minute real life documentary called SAPNA. Henceforth, moved by the plight of the tribal weavers of Himachal Pradesh and indisposed to continue watching our ancestral arts and crafts just fade away- Nitin aspired for their gain and righteous recognition. Today, he can thus stand tall for his inspired efforts whereby their mountain wool is finally receiving its due. Gaining mileage for its superior quality especially in terms of durability and softness, this wool is steadfastly being acknowledged for its luxurious demeanor. Coming from the Himalayas, en route London, Paris and Tokyo, the hard work of these inherently talented weavers is finally coming to light. So are the pioneering efforts of Nitin Bal Chauhan, whose sensibility and refined understanding to fashion, art, design & cut has designated him as one of India’s finest. He also participated in the recent London Fashion Week, Tranoi Festival and Japan Fashion Week. Abiding by his convictions of superior cuts, folds and penchant styles- Nitin once again gives face to his creative depths through his collection, Conditions Apply: Part I, the Domestic Collection.
